1. What is Chiropractic Care?
a. Chiropractic care is a holistic approach to full body health by evaluating and decreasing areas of stress and dysfunction in the spine. Since the spine protects our spinal cord and nerves that lead to all of our vital organs and tissues, it is imperative that our spine is in good alignment with proper function. Without this proper function there is a variety of symptoms that can present such as headaches, depression, pain, upset digestion, irregular menstruation, irregular sleeping patterns, and much more. Research shows that the pressure of a dime can decrease nerve function up to 60% and increase inflammation that then leads to miscommunication between our body and brain. Chiropractic care will restore function not only in the joint of the spine but also to the nervous system so you can trust your body’s natural healing ability.
2. Are adjustments safe?
a. Chiropractic care is absolutely safe which is why it is usually recommended before trying other invasive therapies or treatments. Due to the safety and low risk of chiropractic adjustments, chiropractor’s malpractice insurance is actually one of the lowest amongst healthcare providers. Even though Chiropractic has a high safety rating, no health treatment is completely free of potential adverse effects, which is why our doctors at Rodrock Chiropactic will discuss any possible side effects, and what you can expect before any treatment is performed.
3. What is the popping noise during an adjustment?
a. The popping noise you might hear is gas being released in a joint. This causes a change in pressure that gives the feeling of relief. It is important to understand that with a chiropractic adjustment, we are moving the vertebra into proper alignment whether there is a pop or not, so don’t chase the crack!
4. Is it safe to get adjusted if I am pregnant?
a. Yes, chiropractic adjustments during pregnancy are very safe. If anything, it is one of the more important times to get adjusted due to all the changes to the pelvis. Adjustments can optimize pelvic positioning so you and baby are comfortable throughout the pregnancy. With proper pelvic alignment comes a quicker, safer, and easier delivery.
5. Why is it necessary to have my infant or child adjusted?
a. Chiropractic adjustments can improve not only pain, but also our entire body’s health. This is why it is so important for our littles to get adjusted from the start. The birthing process can be traumatic for mom and baby, putting stress on their nervous system that can affect some important developmental processes. For children of any age, they are in a constant state of adaptation and growth. Adjustments assist in this adaptation by increasing the body’s natural ability to fight off illness and the stress of growing.
6. What can I expect on my 1st visit?
a. On your first visit, you will receive intake paperwork that will be reviewed by the doctor you are seeing that day. Once they have become familiar with your complaint and history they will have a one on one consultation with you. If x-rays are deemed necessary, then x-rays will be taken in order for our doctors to have a road map for your care. When it comes to your health, we don’t want to guess. They will proceed to perform an exam that may rule out any contraindication to adjustments. On your next visit, before you get adjusted, they will review your x-rays with you and discuss an individualized care plan for you.
7. I have heard once I get adjusted I will have to continue the rest of my life. Is this true?
a. Chiropractic care focuses on allowing the body to self regulate and heal. In other words, it is a preventive form of healthcare that keeps you healthy, gives you a better quality of life, and saves you money down the road. So, in order to prevent illness, and keep everything functioning, maintenance is recommended. Similar to getting a cleaning at the dentist or getting your car serviced. There are different phases of care that one will go through as they improve, allowing the body to adapt and resulting in this maintenance care.
8. Can I adjust myself?
a. This question is a common one! One can pop their own neck or crack their back but that is not an adjustment and will actually damage a joint if this becomes a habit. Let’s take the neck for example. If there is a lack of motion between two vertebras, and they twist and pop their own neck, they are moving the vertebra below and above and never moving the restricted segment. This results in a damaged joint over time and begins wearing on bone, which leads to instability and inflammation that causes pain and the feeling to crack their neck. An adjustment is specific and affective so there is no damage to the joint.
9. Is chiropractic care expensive?
a.Chiropractic care is actually more affordable than most traditional forms of healthcare. Since chiropractic care can prevent some serious and expensive conditions later on down the road, it can actually save you money. When it comes to valuing you and your family’s health, you can’t afford not to get adjusted! At our office we offer affordable family care plans.
